South Korea Launches Digital Nomad Visa with New Income Criteria
South Korea's Ministry of Justice has officially launched the Digital Nomad (Workation) visa, allowing foreign nationals to stay for up to three years. The program features revised income requirements that vary based on age and residence location.
Key Features of the Digital Nomad Visa
On June 30, 2026, South Korea officially launched its Digital Nomad (Workation) visa (F-1-D), building on a pilot program that began in 2024. This visa now allows foreign nationals to stay in the country for up to three years, an increase from the previous maximum of two years.
Revised Income Requirements
The income threshold for applicants has been adjusted. Previously, all applicants needed to meet a requirement of twice the per capita gross national income (GNI), which was approximately KRW 52.41 million in 2025. Now, the income requirements are more flexible, ranging from one to two times the per capita GNI based on the applicant’s age and their region of residence. For instance:
- Individuals aged 18 to 34 working outside the capital area may only need to meet the 1x per capita GNI requirement.
Eligibility
The Digital Nomad visa is available to foreign nationals aged 18 and older who have been employed by a foreign company for over one year or own a foreign company. Additionally, family members of the primary visa holder are eligible to apply.
